| | Don't Break The Oath CD (1984) Remastered
$15.05 On their sophomore album, which was to be their last before an eight-year hiatus and the final one with their classic line-up, Mercyful Fate expanded their signature sound with the creative use of atmospheric keyboards, slicker production values, and slightly ...

| In The Shadows CD (1993) Reissue
$9.95 The first album from the reunited Mercyful Fate (with studio drummer Morton Nielsen replacing Kim Ruzz), IN THE SHADOWS adopts the stripped-down sound and progressive songwriting of the group's debut MELISSA. There's even a harpsichord-laced sequel to that album's title ...

| Time CD (1994) Reissue
$9.55 Like its predecessor (the comeback disc In the Shadows), Time has a mostly original Mercyful Fate lineup delivering strong material that might not exactly stand up to the group's best early-'80s work, but still packs a nasty horror-metal punch. As ...
|
| Dead Again CD (1998)
$9.69 Recorded during a frenzy of activity during the late '90s, Dead Again was presumably thrown together rather quickly, as Mercyful Fate and King Diamond's solo outfit were both releasing new discs at a furious rate. This schedule had to be ...

| 9 CD (1999)
$9.55 It's somewhat odd that the reunited Mercyful Fate has now recorded more prolifically than the original group did in their classic early-'80s period, especially since there seems to be a personnel shift with nearly every '90s album. Their fifth full-length ...

| Into The Unknown CD (1996)
$9.69 The original lineup of Mercyful Fate reunited to record Into the Unknown but instead of capturing the spark of their early records, the band just seemed tired. They worked the same territory that made them famous and perhaps that was ...

 Mercyful Fate Biography
Formed in Copenhagen in 1980 by guitarist Hank Shermann and top-hat and make-up sporting vocalist King Diamond, Mercyful Fate provided a highly influential link between the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and the burgeoning black and death metal scenes. Their self-titled debut EP unveiled Diamond's groundbreaking vocal style, which ranged from bassy canine yowls to Halfordesque falsetto shrieks. While MELISSA and DON'T BREAK THE OATH confirmed their status as underground metal luminaries, the band split over Shermann's determination to pursue a surprising AOR direction and the continuing overt Satanism of Diamond's lyrics. Diamond continued with an eponymous new band, while Shermann formed Fate. However, the 1993 release of the rarities compilation IN THE SHADOWS (which included a guest appearance by Lars Ulrich) led to their reformation.
