 Buddy Miles Biography
Buddy Miles was one of rock's most underrated drummers despite his explosive technique and mastery of numerous styles. Miles got his start as a sideman for various R&B performers before hooking up with Mike Bloomfield to form the seminal blues-rock act Electric Flag. Although he would go on to make a number of excellent solo albums that blended hard funk with psychedelic rock, he's best remembered as the drummer in Jimi Hendrix's legendary Band of Gypsys. In his later years, Miles would lend his skills to a host of artists, including Santana and Phish. Always a sought-after singer in addition to being a ferocious traps man, Miles also provided vocals for the popular animated singing group the California Raisins. He died in 2008.
