The Rhythm Troops create a cut-and-paste mélange over the vinyl crackle of "Krushed Wall," while "1200" loops strains of jazzy saxophone through swirling harp and a steady drum track. The dark, sinuous groove of "Escapee," for example, which features DJ A.S.A., provides just the right amount of syncopated propulsion to frame Krush's mellow scratching. There are no guest MCs here, so there is nothing to distract from the atmospheric, instrumental wash of the record, which upholds Krush's claim as one of the more graceful and enthralling DJs around.
On KAKUSEI, turntable master DJ Krush strikes a wonderful balance between a layered, sonically dense aesthetic and subtle, minimal shading.
