Moldy Peaches Biography
New York City's the Artist were formed by singer-songwriters Adam Green and Kimya Dawson in the early 1990s. The band played a punky version of the East Village anti-folk sound, with a considerable dose of the twee-pop style associated with Olympia, Washington (a city in which Dawson spent considerable time), and K Records. The band were cult favorites among indie rockers and folk punks, though they broke up shortly after the release of their 2001 breakthrough self-titled full-length on Rough Trade. Both Dawson and Green went on to respectable solo careers, with Dawson hitting the big time thanks to the inclusion of several of her solo songs (and one Artist song as well) on the soundtrack to the Oscar-nominated film JUNO.
