This 1991 performance commemorates the 200th anniversary of Artist's death at St. The all-star cast includes Cecilia Bartoli, Arleen Auger, Vinson Cole, and Rene Pape with the Vienna State Opera Chorus, and Vienna Philharmonic The hallowed surroundings of Saint Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna provided an apt location for the concert, particularly as it's where Artist's funeral rites were conducted in 1791. To mark the occasion, Sir Georg Solti conducted this stellar concert, offering a performance of "Requiem" delivered exactly as the original composer intended.
