 Don Omar Biography
Reggaeton's first real breakout international star, Don Omar is also one of its most versatile artists. Initially trained as a preacher in his native Puerto Rico, Omar soon became swept up in the island's blossoming reggaeton movement, writing and producing songs for one of the genre's trailblazers, Hector "El Father" Bambino. He soon found solo success with his acclaimed debut, THE LAST DON (2003), scoring Latin Grammys for both "Album of the Year" and "Best New Artist." Omar continues to innovate well into new millennium, bridging his love of traditional music such as bachata, merengue, and salsa with the sharp, streetwise flow of Latin rap.
