On their first two releases Soundscape UK combined elements of acid in with a radio-ready sound but with Uptown Groove their music is aimed strictly at the smooth jazz marketplace. The instrumental tracks are respectable but have little individual personality but about a third of the album is reserved for upscale retro soul and these tracks work best, thanks in part to the vocalist Opal. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as the duo is good at creating club etched background music but the result is more polished and professional then memorable.
