 Otep Biography
Los Angeles-based nu-metal band OTEP owes some of its success to Sharon Osbourne, who heard the band's 2001 debut EP on Capitol and installed them on that year's Ozzfest, giving them maximum exposure and road experience. But the uniqueness of the band is in its charismatic frontwoman, Otep Shamaya, one of the few female vocalists in the genre. Her gritty singing, brash yet distinctly female presence, and poetic lyrics distinguish the band from its peers. Shamaya has also fully embraced the Internet as a further tool of expression, regularly documenting the band's movements on her blog and via tour videos on YouTube.
