 William Parker Biography
A major force in 1990s/2000s free jazz, bassist and composer William Parker has led numerous groups of different sizes and styles. As a young musician, he worked as a sideman for Ed Blackwell, Don Cherry, Billy Higgins, Sunny Murray, and others before stepping out on his own as a bandleader. In addition to his dizzying musical agenda, the prolific Parker has also released numerous volumes of his own poetry, and conducted workshops for young musicians, inspiring younger generations of forward-looking jazz musicians.
