 Peaches Biography
With her explicit gender-baiting lyrics and outrageous stage shows combining guerilla performance tactics and lewd cabaret antics, Canadian electro rap provocateur, Peaches (born Merrill Beth Nisker), became one of the most critically lauded artists to emerge from the electroclash movement. Formerly an elementary school music and drama teacher, in the early `90s Nisker grew tired of traditional songwriting and acquired a Roland drum machine, teaching herself to produce beats. In 1995 she released her debut album, FANCYPANTS HOODLUM, under her birth name. But the fully-formed Peaches persona emerged later on 2000's TEACHES OF PEACHES, whose sleazy, pro-sex take on feminism, "Fuck the Pain Away," won fans such as Madonna and Christina Aguilera. Follow-up albums, FATHERFUCKER (2003) and IMPEACH MY BUSH (2006), tackled themes of gender identity and sexual politics with equal aplomb.
