 Planxty Biography
Formed in 1972, this veritable supergroup of Irish traditionalists (members included Christy Moore, Donal Lunny and Andy Irvine), helped spark an Irish folk renaissance more than any other band except the Chieftans. Planxty underwent various lineup changes, and eventually disbanded in the early 1980s, but a successful reunion in 2004 was so successful that it led to a year of touring, and the potential for future performances.
