 Jean-Luc Ponty Biography
A versatile and innovative master of the electric violin, French-born Jean-Luc Ponty pursues an uncompromising musical vision that includes elements of free jazz, bop, fusion, pop, and classical. He was one of the first jazz violinists to integrate effects and electronics as a part of his sound, making him a hot sideman in the 1960s and '70s on both jazz and pop albums. He has sweetened the records of artists like Elton John, Frank Zappa, and John McLaughlin as well as heading his own jazz outfit, and has been releasing solo albums to solid acclaim since 1964.
