 Bud Powell Biography
Bud Powell was one of the creators of bebop and the era's greatest pianist. His highly complex recordings were rife with emotionally profound improvisations, and he was equally gifted as a composer--a number of his compositions from the 1940s and 1950s have become jazz standards. Unfortunately, the immensity of his gifts was matched by deeply troubling mental-health problems, which took a toll on his career as the years progressed.
