 Renaissance Biography
In 1968, former Yardbirds Jim McCarty and Keith Relf reunited in Renaissance, a folk group that embraced classical and musique concrète reference points that set them apart from most of their peers. McCarty left after the release of their first album, and Relf recruited a host of new members, including vocalist Annie Haslam, whose remarkable, classically trained voice proved to be the band's greatest strength. Though the lineup changed many times over the years (and the orchestras eventually replaced by synthesizers), Renaissance has remained active through the early '00s.
