Hi! I’m Rosalind and Model Martian Moon Boy is my first album, My songs—and their genre—are definitely an offshoot of the female folk singer tradition. ‘Shadows’ and ‘Model Martian Moon Boy’ are from the thick of things in high school. On the other hand, I wrote ‘The Freedom’ when I was thirteen. However, the writing process has spanned five years. All of these songs serve as a record my perspectives, opinions, and imaginings when they were written. Some of the songs, such as ‘My Madness’, ‘White Noise Stops’, and ‘Helen’s Song’ had been around in various states of incompleteness for quite awhile but weren’t really tied together until immediately before recording. I recorded Model Martian Moon Boy in the weeks following graduation from high school. I grew up listening obsessively to Sarah McLachlan, as well as Regina Spektor and Fiona Apple, more recently. Ever. In writing ‘Model Martian Moon Boy’, I was trying to describe the utter perfection and ridiculousness of their love. ‘Model Martian Moon Boy’, the title track of the album, is based on Benny & Joon; a Johnny Depp movie from the early nineties. It was the sweetest thing I had ever seen. To briefly summarize the plot, two crazy people fall in love and ground one another in their otherwise unstable worlds.
