 Shirley Scott Biography
Artist's first love was piano, but it was with the Hammond B-3 that she first made her mark, playing in high-energy tenor sax/organ combos with Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis or Stanley Turrentine. From the 1950s on, she utilized a distinctively percussive approach on the instrument, fully exploiting its range. In the early 1990s, she revisited acoustic piano on record, producing a pair of fine trio albums. Scott died in 2002 from heart failure.
