 Peggy Seeger Biography
Born into a musical family (she shares a father with Pete Seeger, and her mother was a modernist composer), Peggy Seeger is a traditional folk singer and songwriter, and a tireless crusader for human rights. She got her start professionally in 1956 when she joined the British folk group the Ramblers, featuring future husband Ewan MacColl and archivist Alan Lomax. This began a decades-long collaborative effort between her and MacColl before he died in 1989. Seeger also recorded solo albums and collaborated with other folk stalwarts of the day. As of the early 2000s, Seeger is still busy on the concert circuit, and also gives workshops about songcraft, performance, and feminist issues.
