 Joanne Shenandoah Biography
An Onondaga chief's daughter, Joanne Shenandoah of the Oneida Nation is the premier Native American singer and composer of her generation. Since the late 1980s, Shenandoah has been singing traditional Iroquois songs, using native instruments with contemporary flourishes, to both preserve her ancestors' music and move it into the future. She has recorded over 10 albums, some of which have been nominated for Grammy Awards, and she has twice won the Native American Music Award for Best Female Artist.
