 Spyro Gyra Biography
Saxophonist Jay Beckenstein's instrumental group has been at it since 1975, getting their start in the Buffalo jazz club scene. Although the line-up has mutated over the years, the basic aesthetics remain the same: accessible, melodic, funk-driven jazz fusion played with hearty chops and a sense of whimsy. The band has released an album for almost every year of its existence, and has garnered several Grammy award nominations and wins.
