| Essential Gary Stewart CD (1997)
$8.99 Over the course of these 20 tracks, listeners get to encounter the rare and focused genius that was Gary Stewart. Covering his career from the late '60s through the 1970s while he was with RCA, these songs testify to a ...

| Out Of Hand/Your Place Or Mine CD (2001)
$14.19 This two-fer, which pairs up Stewart's best album (1975's Out of Hand) and a decent similarly themed outing from two years later, serves as a fine intro to both Stewart's mildly outlaw country and one of the best genre albums ...

| Live At Billy Bob's Texas CD (2003)
$11.95 Other than reissues and best-of releases, Live at Billy Bob's Texas is Gary Stewart's first new album in a decade, and his first-ever live recording -- which seems odd for a performer whose songs seem to be tailor-made for live ...

| Country Legends CD (2004) Remastered
$7.79 This volume in the RCA Country Legends series is perhaps its most overdue. The late, hard-living, tragedy-prone Gary Stewart was the artist who best walked the line between the hard honky tonk country of George Jones and Merle Haggard and ...

| Best Of The Hightone Years CD (2002)
$10.69 Gary Stewart has never fit comfortably into anyone's preconceptions about what a country singer should be. With a voice like Jerry Lee Lewis fed through a tremolo effect, and a hard-hitting approach to barroom ballads, Stewart has never been a ...

| I'm A Texan CD (1993)
$10.69 More impassioned than ever, Stewart continues to excel at raw-boned honky tonk and revved-up country-rock. The songs don't all live up to his treatment, but when they do, as on "Honky Tonk Hardwood Floor" or the inviting "Come on In," ...

| Brand New CD (1988)
$10.69 After a six-year break, Gary Stewart returned to recording for the Hightone label in Oakland, CA. Other than rocking a bit harder -- courtesy of guitar players Dale Sellers on lead and Allman Brother Warren Haynes on slide -- Stewart ...

| All American Country CD (2003)
$5.95 While this collection of the late, great Gary Stewart is far from complete, it is representative of the last link to hard country and honky tonk music. This one sparingly covers all of his RCA albums as a solo artist ...
|
| Battleground CD (1990)

 Gary Stewart Biography
While the lasting notoriety of other like performers such as Gram Parsons and Waylon Jennings has eluded him, no one fused country music and rock and roll more effortlessly or uniquely than Floridian songwriter Gary Stewart. With an emotive vibrato that evoked George Jones and harmonic guitar leads that recalled Duane Allman and Dickey Betts, Gary Stewart found the exact dive where honky-tonk and southern rock shared the same barstool. Starting in the '60s as a songwriter, Stewart burst out of mid '70s Nashville with a string of critically lauded albums, strong material about wayward lovers, whiskey delusions, and hard-partying, and a number one single, "She's Actin' Single (I'm Drinking Doubles.)" He continued to tour and record throughout the '80s and '90s--including two duet albums with songwriter Dean Dillon--but never reclaimed his '70s commercial stride. Stewart's later years were marked with a wrenching strife that included drug addiction and the suicide of his son. In December 2006, a grieving Stewart himself committed suicide about two weeks after his wife died of pneumonia.
