Kirkpatrick, a sometime member of Richard Thompson's backing band and Steeleye Span, fuses Morris dance-like accordion and concertina rhythms with a pub-friendly British spirit and some modern flare--most notably, on the full-tilt "What Do You Do in the Day?" as Kirkpatrick collaborates with punk quartet the Pork Dukes. This installment, GOING SPARE, finds star session accordionist John Kirkpatrick following up his 1972 debut JUMP AT THE SUN. As the ultimate British folk and folk-rock imprint of the late '70s, Free Reed kept alive during punk's peak the intersection of traditional and contemporary British music started in the late '60s by Fairport Convention.
