| Runaway Boys: A Retrospective '81-'92 CD (1997)
$11.69 Offering up a bracing shot of rock & roll revivalism in the midst of the synth-loving 1980s New Wave era, the Stray Cats were utterly anachronistic and undeniably charming, a point driven home by this well-selected 25-track compilation. With its ...

 Stray Cats Biography
In the early 1980s, Long Island's Stray Cats almost single-handedly renewed interest in rockabilly. The Cats were an unprecedented success, thanks to Brian Setzer's skilled fretwork and the band's retro sound and image, which stood out against MTV's rotation of new-wave hair bands. The act stormed into the top ten three times in two years with "Rock This Town," "Stray Cat Strut," and "(She's) Sexy & 17." Although the band was short-lived, Setzer emerged in the '90s as the lynchpin of yet another revivalist movement--swing--with the hugely successful Brian Setzer Orchestra.
