Fans of either Empire or Techno Animal will obviously enjoy the sound, but few promises are actually delivered. Released in Europe in 1998, Alec Empire (Atari Teenage Riot) created this slab of sonic purity, assisted by Matador recording artist Techno Animal. Though both acts have little trouble producing excellent work on their own, the collaboration between Empire and Techno Animal comes off as a distinct disappointment. Never before released in the US!
Personnel: Alec Empire, Techno Animal, MC Beans. The Curse of the Golden Vampire takes each act's trademark -- industrial breakbeats and darkside dub soundscapes, respectively -- and merely blends them together, resulting in a project which sounds as though separate studios were used for recording. Featuring guest vocals from MC Beans of Anti-Pop Consortiium.

If you've been looking for a combination of lounge music's self-consciously blasé decadence and the chilly electronic atmospherics of the techno/rave scene, then you have no farther to look than this disc. The result is very pleasant dance music that fits just fine in the background but will also reward your attention, should you choose to turn it in the music's direction. Consisting of 21 tracks presented in an uninterrupted "DJ mix" format, Sounds from the Electronic Lounge floats gently from low-key club beats to equally gentle drum'n'bass tracks, never chilling out completely but also never rising above a gentle simmer of energy.
