Based in the New England/Boston area, Ten Story Love writes and performs something between Power Pop & Garage Rock. Looking both backward and forward at the same time, the album fuses Kinks, Big Star and White Album-era Beatles influences effortlessly without any retro hangover. While the dual guitar team of Brad Page & Scot Gibbs are formidable as soloists, Ten Story Love has been called 'the Jedi Masters of the lost art of rhythm guitar'. Ten Story Love plays guitar-powered pop; Put Matthew Sweet, Cheap Trick, Todd Rundgren, Tom Petty, Fountains of Wayne and Paul Westerberg in a blender besides the big mess, it just might come out sounding something like Ten Story Love.Ten Story Love is the name of both the band and their first CD, a collection of 13 songs about life, love, work, philosophy, and even a 'Big Question' or two. Although the album is a valiant indie rock effort, it really isn't worth anyone's time outside of New England. Attempts at deep lyrical themes on songs like "This Island Earth" (complete with cheesy production effects alluding to the 1969 moon landing), fall far short of the intended impact. Even the album's best moments, like the opener, "The Perfect Girl," and "Marian on the Steps," an allusion to Marian Anderson's 1939 performance on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, seem shallow in retrospect. The self-titled, self-released debut album from this New England-based band, Ten Story Love is a collection of bland, unconvincing guitar-powered pop/rock songs, which don't age well and shouldn't resonate far outside of the band's local fan base. Each song has a hook and melody that in a better world, would be all over the radio
