After the confident sprawl of their debut Columbia records, unsure of what to do with this hard-to-classify ensemble, paired them with Carl Perkins and subsequently dropped them both. Founding guitarist Steve Ferguson left and was replaced by Al Anderson (who stuck around for the next 23 years!).

When Al Anderson's solo album was recorded and released in 1972, he was every bit the naturally seasoned writer and player. After some regional hits in the late '60s with his band The Wildweeds, he joined NRBQ in 1970.
