 Mel Torme Biography
Mel Torme is one of the most beloved pop crooners ever. A consummate entertainer, Torme earned the moniker "The Velvet Fog" for his deep, smokey vocals and "Birth of Cool" persona. And as a trained jazz drummer and accomplished songwriter and arranger, Torme collaborated with a host of the jazz world's finest from Jerry Mulligan and George Shearing to Buddy Rich and Artie Shaw. Torme was also brought to the attention of a younger audience thanks to his appearances on SEINFELD and NIGHT COURT. He continued to record and perform up until his death in 1999.
