Emerging from the Toronto music scene by way of Sault Saint Marie, Treble Charger continues mining the vein of melodic, scrunge-pop they have become so adept at tossing around. Like fellow Canadians Sloan and American garage rockers the Posies, Treble Charger shine in their use of harmonies and hooks on songs such as "Kareen" and "Takes Me Down." Looking and sounding somewhat like Weezer's Rivers Cuomo, melancholy-sounding lead singer Bill Priddle gives most of MAYBE IT'S ME a bittersweet aftertaste that is bound to rattle around your head long after the stereo's been shut off.

Many huge hits are included, including songs by Kid Rock, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Matchbox Twenty, 3 Doors Down, and others. This compilation is at least devoid of filler, as all of these songs were featured on alternative rock radio quite prominently when they first came out. Big Shiny Tunes, Vol. 5 is a mix of popular alternative rock songs from the years 2000 and 2001. But in all honesty, many of these songs were never really that good to begin with, leaving the collection rather devoid of a strong base.
