Joe Goldmark is the kind of pedal steel guitar hotshot who could give Emmons and Mooney a run for their money.
The combined sonic heft of these artists is awe-inspiring, as captured on this document of the group's short but memorable tour. The next time some pessimistic fan of traditional country tries to tell you that the genre has been taken over by "hat acts," point that sourpuss in the direction of the Twangbangers. This mighty honky-tonk collective represents not just a great band, but the coming together of some of the finest performers in modern (that's not to say commercial) country music. Dallas Wayne is the closest thing to a second-generation Moe Bandy as you're likely to hear. He and Merle Haggard guitarist Redd Volkaert can do more with a pair of Telecasters than is dreamed of in your philosophy. Bill Kirchen got his start many moons ago as guitar hotshot for boogie-woogie hippies Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen.
