Arrangers: David Z. Fortunately, all of Prince's new material comes within shooting distance of standards like "Erotic City," "Adore," and "Girls and Boys," as well as Vanity 6's "Nasty Girl." The New Power Generation tracks fall a little flat in comparison, but Girl 6 is a fine record, ideal for those who pine for Prince's mid-'80s heyday. If anything, the soundtrack sounds like it was recorded in 1986 -- nearly every song is about sex, and they're all driven by funky keyboards or are smooth soul ballads. Prince compiled the soundtrack to Spike Lee's phone-sex comedy Girl 6, using a handful of new tracks from himself and the New Power Generation, as well as several classic Prince-performed and Prince-produced tracks.

This album oozes attitude. "Somebody get me a mirror!"
"What time is it?" shouts Morris Day to kick off the album of the same name. Day gathered. "777-9311," for instance, features some super cymbal work from Jellybean Johnson, and a frenzied guitar solo from Jesse Johnson. What makes these grooves timeless are the immensely musical and tight players Mr. But his real talent, aside from his alleged sexual prowess, is his ability to get the most out of his band. From its opening "Wild And Loose," Morris never quits with his rantings ("Ain't nobody cool but me"). This is funk, early eighties style, with a certain Prince-ly flavor and plenty of humor.
