| | 6 Song Compilation CD (1992)
$6.89 Velocity Girl's eponymous debut EP compiles six highlights from a series of singles and contributions to various-artists collections from the early '90s. Half of the record is weighed down by waves of hazy guitars, but the other half is engaging indie-pop, highlighted by "Always," "I Don't Care If You Go" and the wonderful "Forgotten Favorite," which combines a sunny melody with layers of feedback reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine.

$9.29 Supergrass sing about the joys of youth, Radiohead go acoustic, and Ian Broudie's Lightning Seeds come up with the brighter-than-the blue-sky "Change," the kind of catchy, jangly, McCartney-esque power-popper that Broudie seems able to write at will. Eschewing grunge's moroseness, the compilation is centered around good old-fashioned guitar-pop for the mind, and varied grooves for the body.

 Velocity Girl Biography
Velocity Girl CD discography Signed to Sub Pop Records just as grunge was starting to pass out of the media spotlight, Washington DC's Artist were part of the transformation from "alternative" to "indie." The band, led by singer Sarah Shannon and former Black Tambourine guitarist Archie Moore, was connected by both personnel and inclination to the then-underground twee pop scene (their name was stolen from a 1987 Primal Scream single) while college-radio hits like "Audrey's Eyes" and "I Can't Stop Smiling" recalled the shoegazer sound. After three fine albums, COPACETIC, SIMPATICO, and GILDED STARS AND ZEALOUS HEARTS, Artist broke up in 1996.
