DION albums Includes a 48-page full color booklet with photos and a transcribed interview with Artist DiMucci. Personnel includes Artist, Paul Simon (vocals); Jimmy Gallagher, Louis Colletti, Joe Neary (background vocals). Includes liner notes by Dave Marsh, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed, Artist DiMucci. Digitally remastered by Bob Fisher, Allen Steelgrave (2000, Pacific Multimedia). "After all, who could be hipper than Artist?" With these words, no less a hipster than Lou Reed inducted Artist DiMucci from the Bronx into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1989. Artist has been making records steadily for 40 years. This three-CD compilation set is a fitting tribute to one of rock's greatest, most recognizable voices. The dulcet sounds of his early doo-wop recordings with the Belmonts ("I Wonder Why," "A Teenager in Love") give way to the vulnerable, swinging swagger of his solo efforts such as "Runaround Sue" and "The Wanderer," and a return to his bluesy roots with "Ruby Baby" and "Spoonful." Artist reemerged on the other side of the British Invasion re-made into a folk-ish, somewhat psychedelic singer-songwriter with his last Top 10 hit, the wistful "Abraham, Martin, and John," even taking a crack at Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" during this period. The story comes full circle with the selections taken from his endearing 2000 release DEJA NU. KING OF THE NEW YORK STREETS will be of interest both to longtime fans of this seminal artist and the casual, curious listener. 3 CD Box Set With 48 Page Book Producers include: Terry Cashman, Tommy West. Compilation producers: Tom Cartwright, Artist DiMucci, Boby Hyde, Roy Lott, Mike Ragogna. Engineers include: Tom Moulton. Personnel: Artist (vocals). Recording information: 1958-1999.

CD $39.89 Buy CD  Details
DION music CDs Contains a new CD single and 4 previously released CDs: THE WANDERER: HIS GREATESTS HITS ON LAURIE RECORDS (1989), DRIP DROP: HIS GREATEST HITS ON COLUMBIA RECORDS (1999), DEJA NU (2000), and A ROCK & ROLL CHRISTMAS (1995). Bottoming out at less than ten tracks per disc, this bargain-basement Artist box includes all of his best hits (for a variety of labels), but also saddles listeners with some music they may not appreciate as much. Two of the discs include most of what buyers will be listening to, the first being ten tracks of his greatest hits on Laurie (most as Artist & the Belmonts), the second compiling hits for Columbia from the early '60s. The other three discs comprise his last two albums (1995's Rock 'n Roll Christmas and 2000's Deja Nu), plus a bonus single including a pair of new, unreleased tracks: "The Chapels of Ave Maria" and "Only a Fool Breaks His Own Heart." Artist obssessives aside, there's not much here for either neophytes or fans. ~ John Bush 5 CD Box Set
