Energizing folk ballads, country riffs, reggae rhythms, and steel drums await the intrepid explorer In 1995 Artist entered the Twin Cities music scene as founder and leader of the band Kangaroo, performing in clubs and college venues with band members Robert Everest, Billy Franklin, Melissa Mathews, and Craig Carney. His first solo album, Midnight, Montreal, is an upbeat compilation of songs that take the listener on many a dusty road and waterway from Montreal to Amarillo, and from Baton Rouge to Havana. Kangaroo's Juniper and Baobab (1997) featured world-pop fusion, with African, Latin, and American folk influences. Artist's musical footprints lead deep into the American backcountry, but don't always keep to the borders.
