Science Under Pressure CD (2003)
Bolides music CDs The Bolides play a little like a faster, more conventionally garage rock version of the Cramps on their debut album. There are influences from the most basic of '60s garage bands and the more hook-driven '70s punk acts. To be honest, though, they don't have much of interest to say, either musically or lyrically, leaning on wise-ass songs with a novelty flavor. Tunes about ADD, pills, insanity ("Freud used to be a whole lot better when he wasn't so in love with his mother" chides "Insanity Insane") are interwoven with enough references to science and medical procedures to make you feel as if you've stumbled on a bunch of bored hospital lab technicians who'd much rather be in a punk rock group. The vaguely mad scientist vibe is enhanced by some electronic swoops and slightly unhinged, part-ranted vocals. Neither the songs -- relying on surf-horror guitar chording and some cheesy organ -- nor the attitude are enough to either shock or mightily entertain, however. ~ Richie Unterberger
The Bolides: Mikro Fiche (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Victor Osiris (vocals, guitar); Dr. Shrink Wray (bass guitar); Dr. Drummond (drums).
