Monsters CD (2006)
Brave New World CD discography Brave New World is melodic hard rock at its best with Monsters showcasing power, passion and melody combined into an addictive package. Brave New World's origins date back to 1994 when vocalist Rick Cartey and Passion Street released their debut album "Million Miles Away". From there, the band went through several line-up changes over the years - with Cartey remaining a consistent presence - and later changed their name to Brave New World. Monsters is the band's debut release and yields a heavier sound than fans of Passion Street will remember, but the infectious hooks and melodies remain. The album is home to the precise guitar work from Pat Heath (also of Vaughn) which combines, with excellent effect, with the keyboard work of Cris J. Playle. This pair along with the vocals of Cartey form the focal point of Brave New World, which is underpinned by the tight rhythm section of bassist Stu Brown and drummer Tommy Folstadli (formerly of Valhalla). Hard Rock, total running time, 54:03

Worldwind CD (1998)
Brave New World music CDs It's not clear whether the sax-keyboard duo Todd Nystrom and Chuck Henry called their attractive musical marriage Brave New World because they felt they were being innovative or simply to express their affection for the recent Rippingtons album of the same name. Either way, Worldwind is as strong as melodically exciting, hip-hop oriented smooth jazz gets, with hip modern and retro effects ranging from loops to Fender Rhodes and even an out of the blue insertion of a big-band sample on "Buttermilk Sky," which has the effect of a tried and true blast from the past over modern machinery. While a few numbers with a real rhythm section would have added more variety, the duo gives us more than enough to latch onto and get involved with sonically. The essential setup on most tunes is a Nystrom soprano or alto sax melody (which is often doubled on the hooks to create a sassy horn section effect) over a shuffling groove and a variety of keyboard harmony sounds. On tunes like the Sanbornesque opener "The Way to Your Heart," Henry's vibrant piano solo lets us know he's more than just a groovy technician. While BNW is mostly a self-contained unit, guitarist Jason Bowen makes a few grabs for the spotlight. ...

Psychedelic Seattle (1965-1969) CD (1980)
The final volume of the series has the most obscure tracks of the lot, and focuses more on the early psychedelic era than the previous installments. None of these were hits, and only the Sonics and the Kingsmen were widely known. However, it's also the least interesting of the three volumes, with little in the way of notable material, other than the Sonics' "High Time" ...
