Cordelia's Dad CD (1990)
Cordelia's Dad albums The first album by Northampton, MA's Cordelia's Dad makes plain the trio's roots in the western Massachusetts punk scene. Although nearly all of the 13 songs are traditional American folk songs (the exception, "My Frozen Hedgehog," is by guitarist Tom King, based on a traditional folk motif), the guitar-bass-drums power trio format, complete with feedback and often anguished vocals by bassist Tim Eriksen, is at ...

What It Is CD (2002)
Cordelia's Dad discography While just a basic trio, Cordelia's Dad compose a far greater and larger sound than imagined, moving from the early alternative rock of the '90s Seattle scene with a tablespoon of jazz and R.E.M. traces on "Upswing," a moody and winding track. "Inhaler" recalls Canadian cult rockers the Tragically Hip, a mix of jazz ideas on a slow tension-building arrangement. Lead songwriter Tim Eriksen has ...

Double Live CD (2011)
Cordelia's Dad songs Since 1986 - before the post-punk boom of the early '90s and way before the post-O Brother folk boom of the early 2000s - Cordelia's Dad has led a double life playing both inventive noisy rock and inventive acoustic Americana. Sometimes that's meant an acoustic set at a plush-seated art center followed by an electric set at a sweaty rock club a few hours later. ...

Spine CD (1998)
Cordelia's Dad CD discography By the time Spine appeared, original members Irvine and Eriksen were accompanied by fiddler Laura Risk and vocalist/dulcimer player/accordionist Cath Oss. With Steve Albini handling production, the quartet created a smashing baker's dozen interpretations of folk/roots tunes, given fine arrangements throughout. The group may be playing music as old as the hills, but such is the quality of the band that one could imagine it ...

Road Kill CD (1996)
Cordelia's Dad albums A document of Cordelia's Dad's years as an electric folk-rock trio, the 1996 live CD Road Kill is also a farewell to that era of their career. After this release, the trio continued in a more traditional acoustic vein. With its 11-track lineup written out in the manner of a set list (only one or two key words of each song title), the album starts with the obsessively brooding "Brother Judson" and continues in a similarly dark and noisy vein for the next 35 minutes. Even the breakneck-paced version of the gospel standard "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" has an undercurrent of existential dread. Other highlights include an amazingly intense version of "Her Bright Smile Haunts Me Still," a key song from the Anne and Frank Warner collection that was one of Cordelia's Dad's signature numbers in ...
