Cave Rock CD (1969)
Cromagnon music CDs Although released in 1969, this chaotic sound collage of chants, tribal drums, guitar feedback, and bagpipes presages the work of post-punk agitators like Psychic TV and Einstürzende Neubauten. Tracks like "Ritual Feast Of The Libido," which basically revolves around distressed male screaming, are not for the faint of heart, but Cro Magnon's Austin Grasmere and Brian Elliot also display a sense of humor on "Fantasy" which features the kind of jaunty tune the duo might have written during their stint as pop-idol songsmiths, and "First World Of Bronze," which pairs liturgical-sounding chant in the right channel with a Hendrix-y guitar part in the left. This 2009 edition was remastered and re-released by the ESP label.
Personnel: Connecticut Tribe (background vocals).
Audio Remasterer: Douglas McGregor.
Recording information: A1 Sound Studio, New York, NY (1969).
Cromagnon: Austin Grasmere, Brian Eliot.
Cromagnon (ESP): Austin Grasmere, Brian Elliot (vocals).

The diabolic ones here are leaders of a lost tribe. Austin Grasmere and Brian Elliot lead the rites in winter 1968. Primordial, wild & heavy, Cromagnon could be considered the demented stepfathers of Germany’s infamous Einstürzende Neubauten and P-Orridge’s Psychic TV, or perhaps Test Department, all of whom must have listened to this record sometime between wearing diapers and finishing middle school. Weird, tribal percussion , distortion, noise, chanting, screaming and, of course, bag pipes.
This release from 1960s psychedelic band Cromagnon includes "Caledonia" and "Ritual Feast Of The Libido."
