Idol Tryouts Two CDs (2006)
The second volume of Ghostly International's IDOL TRYOUTS series presents another fine mix of the electronica label's artists and their like-minded peers, this time expanding the collection to a two-disc set. While many contributors here fall under the laid-back "armchair" branch of electronic music, including Greg Davis (the folk-tinged "Amaranthine") and Lawrence (the serene "Wasting a Fall"), other acts are a bit more club-oriented, most notably Matthew Dear (the glitchy funk number "Send You Back") and Charles Manier (the surging industrial tune "Bang Bang Lover"). For IDM aficionados seeking new and underexposed artists, this generous 27-track compilation makes for an excellent sampler.
