Mohammed El-Bakkar discography Forty Seven years after his untimely death in 1959 , Mohammed El Bakkar remains a mythical figure in the Arabic community in the United States Memories of music lovers who saw him perform in person remain undiminished. Bakkar was the first Arabic singer ever to appear in a Broadway show (Fanny) . The metamorphosis of Arabic music in America from traditional to a rhythm driven, fast tempo liveliness can be attributed directly to Bakkar recordings. The recordings presented here show the full ranged of this transformation. Produced for Al-Chark from 1953 - 1955 the selections begin on an earlier traditional level and gradually develop in the Bakkar "style" with many variations attempted in between.
