Eric Felten Meets the Dek-tette Eric Felten Meets the Dek-tette CD (2005)
CD $16.19 Buy It  Details
Eric Felten CD discography This project by vocalist/trombonist Eric Felten with the Dek-tette salutes the many memorable recordings made by Mel Tormé with the band when it was led by Marty Paich. But these sessions are hardly re-creations, since new charts were written by Brent Wallarab or Scott Silbert specifically for this recording. A number of Dek-tette alumni were recruited (including alto saxophonist Herb Geller, trumpeter Jack Sheldon, valve trombonist Bob Enevoldsen, and bassist Chuck Berghofer), though tenor saxophonist Bill Perkins (who was excited about participating) unfortunately died shortly before the sessions took place. Felten's warm vocals are straightforward but always right on the money, while his ...
T-Bop T-Bop CD (1993)
CD $17.69 Buy It  Details
Eric Felten CD discography For his debut, trombonist Eric Felten draws on impressive co-stars from opposite ends of the age spectrum. As a second trombone, he enlists veteran Jimmy Knepper, whose experience dates back to the swing era logging time with Mingus, the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, Benny Goodman, and Gil Evans. On tenor saxophone, Felten brings in then-fellow Harvard man Joshua Redman, who was a year away from recording his own debut session for Warner Bros. (This session also predates Redman's appearance on Mario Pavone's Toulon Days.) And the rest of the cast, all denizens of the Boston scene at the ...
Gratitude Gratitude CD (1994)
CD $26.25 Buy It  Details
Eric Felten albums All songs written by Eric Felten except "Jeep's Blues" (Johnny Hodges) and "I Fall In Love Too Easily" (Jule Styne/Sammy Cahn). Gratitude, Eric Felten's second CD as a leader, finds the young trombonist in the company of some seasoned veterans, but his confident playing doesn't give away his age. Brent Wallarab contributed the arrangements, which start with a stunning take of Johnny Hodges' "Jeep's Blues." Though trumpeter Randy Brecker, tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, and the leader each produce a great solo, it is bass clarinetist Bob Mintzer (who sounds somewhat inspired by Eric Dolphy) who steals the show with his ...

So In Love So In Love CD (1992)
CD Check Availability  Details
Eric Felten albums A fine hard bop to post-bop trumpeter, Craig Fraedrich leads three separate groups on this CD from 1992. One unit is a sextet with tenor saxophonist Tony Malaby, trombonist Eric Felten, and guitarist Paul Bollenbeck; there is also a quintet that co-stars soprano saxophonist Dave Liebman and a quartet/quintet with pianist Robert Fox and sometimes John DeSalme on tenor. The music ranges from Dexter Gordon's "Society Red" and "What Is This Thing Called Love" to five diverse Fraedrich originals, being primarily straight-ahead and advanced. An excellent effort that will probably be difficult to locate. ~ Scott Yanow Arrangers: Craig Fraedrich; ...
