On Stage Backstage CD (2000)
Vyacheslav Ganelin discography ON STAGE/BACKSTAGE includes tracks recorded live in Munchen, Germany in 1982.
Vyacheslav Ganelin is best-known as leader of the Ganelin Trio -- a free jazz ensemble with the saxophonist Vladimir Chekasin and the drummer Vladimir Tarasov that, against all odds, created music of great originality and authenticity in the former Soviet Union. Here Ganelin plays solo, giving some insight as to ...

Ancora da Capo CD (1980)
Vyacheslav Ganelin songs Composed by pianist/leader Vyacheslav Ganelin, Ancora Da Capo is an inspired major work consisting of two parts, recorded live on two separate occasions in 1980 and each nearly 40 minutes long. The Ganelin Trio's brand of loosely structured free jazz was something really distinctive, though unfamiliar listeners might use the Art Ensemble of Chicago as a loose comparison since the ...

Encores CD (1981)
Vyacheslav Ganelin albums This wonderfully accessible collection of live performances includes the entire LP Con Fuoco, along with several pieces from other hard to find records. As usual, the trio is in peak form, with great playing, lots of fun, and wonderful interaction. The music for Con Fuoco was recorded in 1979, and the tape had to be literally smuggled out of the former Soviet Union to reach Western ears. This CD is distinguished by a couple of standards: "Summer Time" and "Mack the Knife," each played with the characteristic humor of the group. The other seven numbers are delightfully whimsical, with Vladimir Chekasin in especially good form on whatever he happens to playing at the moment: bassett horn, alto sax, tenor sax, clarinet, wooden flute, ocarina, pipes, percussion, or even his voice. Add Vladamir Tarasov's wacky percussion and leader Ganelin's piano (and even electric guitar), and you've got the ingredients for a ...
