 Milford Graves Biography
Drummer Artist is widely considered to be a crucial figure in the development of free jazz drumming. Graves' style, which is highly gestural and shamanic, is also marked by the incorporation of Indian and African rhythms. In the 1960s, Graves recorded with Albert Ayler, Don Pullen, Giuseppi Logan, and the New York Art Quartet, among others. He has also released a handful of solo recordings, including 1965's Artist PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE and 2000's STORIES, available on John Zorn's Tzadik label.
