Snake Eyes Snake Eyes CD (1998)
CD $12.89 Buy It  Details
Greg Hatza discography The material might be brand new (other than "Change The World," all of the songs are by organist Greg Hatza), but Snake Eyes is very much a throwback in spirit to the great soul-jazz/hard bop organ dates of the 1960s. Hatza shows that he is one of the top jazz organists of the late '90s/early 21st century although he is far from a household name. He sets a variety of catchy grooves and plays challenging solos that inspire his sidemen. Tenor saxophonist Ralph Lalama and guitarist Paul Bollenbeck are in fine form, and drummer Dennis Chambers keeps the grooves flowing at an explosive level. Fans of soul-jazz organ will certainly enjoy this date by the underrated Hatza. ~ Scott Yanow Greg Hatza: Greg Hatza (Hammond b-3 organ); Dennis Chambers, Paul Bollenback, Ralph Lalama. Personnel: Paul Bollenback (guitar); Ralph Lalama (tenor saxophone); Dennis Chambers (drums). Liner Note Author: Geoffrey Himes. Recording information: Maggie's Farm, Buck's County, PA (12/05/1997). In My Pocket In My Pocket CD (1996)
CD $12.89 Buy It  Details
Greg Hatza songs The return of the organ to prominence in the 1990s has allowed Greg Hatza, who recorded two albums for Coral in the late '60s, to make a full-fledged comeback. For his second Palmetto date, Hatza generally avoids blues (other than "Move Over" and the heated "Jump Street") in favor of more challenging chord changes, but fits very securely into the organ tradition. Tenor saxophonist Ralph Lalama and guitarist Paul Bollenback have plenty of concise solos, drummer Gary Jenkins is excellent in support, and the selections (nine Hatza originals plus Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come") swing quite nicely. The catchy "Rio Nights," a funky "Mr. Nasty," and the soulful jazz waltz "Sister Jason" are among the high points of this recommended disc. ~ Scott Yanow Photographer: R. Andrew Lepley. Personnel: Paul Bollenback (guitar); Ralph Lalama (tenor saxophone); Gary Jenkins (drums). Recording information: Sound On Sound Recording, New York, NY (03/05/1996).

I Got Your Mantra I Got Your Mantra CD (2007)
CD Check Availability  Details
Greg Hatza CD discography A versatile fusion guitarist who can also play fiery rock and straight-ahead jazz, Carl Filipiak dominates his CD I Got Your Mantra. Sometimes he plays with the power of an Al Di Meola or Buddy Guy, and at other times he sounds more lyrical. Most of I Got Your Mantra showcases Filipiak in a quartet with keyboardist Paul Soroka (who also has an excellent spot on tenor), electric bassist Steve Zerlin and either John Thomakos or Dennis Chambers on drums. Guest musicians are heard in spots and "Memphis ...
