Les Uns Mais Pas les Autres Les Uns Mais Pas les Autres CD (2006)
CD $13.49 Buy It  Details
Immaculate Machine music CDs Being Canadian and eager to show off their bilingualism, Immaculate Machine released an EP of six of their songs from their 2005 album, Ones and Zeroes, entitled Les Uns Mais Pas les Autres. The instrumentals for each of the pieces are identical to those found on the full-length, as are the vocal arrangements; the only thing that's changed is the language itself, because Immaculate Machine have translated their lyrics into French, which are also included in the liner notes. It's more of a novelty than anything else, but it sounds pretty good, North American indie rock in a language besides English, and it represents the overall sound of the band well, with both their softer ("Sans Issue," or "No Way Out") and louder ("Ne Pars Pas Sans Nous," or "Don't Leave Without Us") sides covered. Certainly not a replacement for either of their records, but pretty fun nonetheless. ~ Marisa Brown Personnel: Brooke Gallupe (guitar); Luke Kozlowski (drums). Recording information: 04/2005-04/2006.

Ones and Zeroes Ones and Zeroes CD (2005)

Immaculate Machine CD discography Some bands struggle to walk a line between light and heavy or choose one path or another, but Immaculate Machine have worked out the not-so-simple art of serving both masters at the same time. On their second full-length album, 2006's Ones and Zeroes, the charming frailty of Kathryn Calder's vocals and keyboards are faced off against the significantly more aggressive textures of Brooke Gallupe's guitar and vocals and Luke Kozlowski's drums and vocals, and in the studio the two sides have found a way to reinforce one another. The loud report of the guitars shores up the less muscular textures of the keys, while their gentle melodic patterns prevent the six-string attack from overwhelming everything else, and when the three members of the band harmonize, the results ...
