Wildling CD (2010)
Kammerflimmer Kollektief CD discography Kammerflimmer Kollektief's work has covered collaborations and remix collections, but their own meeting-in-the-middle group approach is the key, and on their fourth album, Wildling, the trio feels like they've reached a new level of creative inspiration matched with immediately inviting sonic textures. Suggestions of the band's inspirations, as on past releases, ...

Teufelskamin CD (2011)
Kammerflimmer Kollektief albums The fact that there's a song on here called "Soft Machine" might betray both a specific literary and musical background on the part of the German band. Overall, there's certainly a sense of collapsed, understated jazz about Kammerflimmer Kollektief's 2011 album, bursts of bass and distant piano and quiet singing seeming ...

Incommunicado CD (2001)
Kammerflimmer Kollektief discography For Incommunicado, Kammerflimmer Kollektief brainchild Thomas Weber brought his experimental electronic music out of the bedroom to create a live album that brings together jazz, orchestral, and post-rock. Weber gave bandmates copies of Kollektief's debut, Mäander, and had them study the tone of the songs. The band then reinterpreted them live ...

Jinx CD (2007)
Kammerflimmer Kollektief songs Jinx is one of Kammerflimmer Kollektief's finest and most intimate releases yet. The one-time collective has boiled down to the core trio of Heike Aumüller (harmonium and vocals, mostly), Johannes Frisch (double bass) and Tom Weber (guitar), augmented by a different cast of guest musicians on each track. Experimental guitarist Martin ...

Maander CD (2001)
As "Kammerflimmer Kollektief" translated into English refers to a disease causing irregular heartbeats, it's appropriate that many of Maander's 13 tracks chug along at a somewhat irregular pace. That's not say that free-form structures dominate the mix, though, as Thomas Weber has done an outstanding job in balancing focused experimentation with ...

Remixed, Pt. 1 CD (2006)
Re-release of this long-deleted Kammerflimmer Kollektief classic feat. 15min+ of new studio recordings. An assemblage of intriguing electro/acoustic elements, Hysteria is the newest offering from Karlsruhe's Kammerflimmer Kollektief. Incorporating samples, analog synths, and a plethora of stringed instruments (including an acoustic jazz ensemble), Hysteria taunts the fine line of control between ...

Absencen CD (2005)
The dread label post-rock seems to have finally died, but as with all genres, however spuriously named, it's less what one is described as (or would have been) that what one does with the music created. On their fifth album, the members of Kammerflimmer Kollektief sound downright fresh in a rock ...

Cicadidae Vinyl LP (2003)
Cicadidae is the natural outcome of Kammerflimmer Kollektief's evolution from a hybrid jazz electronic outfit to experimental improvisers and finds the band actually playing as a band with brass and string instruments, electronics, drums, and keyboards. It makes Kammerflimmer a sort of Black Dice for downtempo ambient music -- while their lush, tweaked sounds (and decidedly warm tones) are similar to both Four Tet and Manitoba, the songs on Cicadidae have a much looser rock feeling. Take "Neumond Inselhin," which starts the album off with a gentle ticking, gurgling, and chiming that turns to a genuine string melody and then a subtly buzzing cacophony. The song doesn't so much evolve from one phase to the other as it just sort of dances back and forth, like insects in the moonlight on a summer night (hence the cicadas). There's ...
