Living Daylights songs Based in Seattle, Washington, this is an instrumental trio of broad tastes. Ostensibly a jazz outfit, they draw equally from folk dances, cabaret and even skewed pop music. Jessica Lurie, also of the Billy Tipton Memorial Saxophone Quartet, plays alto and tenor saxophones over the richly varied rhythm section of drummer Dale Fanning and bass player Arne Livingston. Lurie and Livingston separately wrote all 10 of the supple tunes. They each have distinct characteristics, giving them a theatrical quality. They're relatively short (by jazz standards anyway), and soloing is inventive, but kept to a minimum. This is Living Daylights' second album (arriving three years after their debut, FALLING DOWN LAUGHING), and finds them fearlessly hopping genre boundaries to create a voice and stand uniquely their own.
