Head and the Heart CD (2010)
Head and the Heart music CDs The Head and the Heart were still a young unsigned band when they released this self-titled debut in June 2010. A mix of Northwestern folk and homespun Americana, the album attracted the attention of several labels. The group wound up signing with Sub Pop before the year was through, paving the way for the album's "official" release -- which included remastered tracks and the addition of concert favorite "Rivers and Roads" -- in early 2011.

The Head And The Heart came together in the summer of 2009, during frequent visits to the open mic night at Conor Byrne in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood. At the start of 2010 the band began work on their debut album with Shawn Simmons at Studio Litho and Steven Aguilar at Bearhead Studio in Seattle and once recorded, started selling burned copies in handmade denim sleeves at local shows. Holiday music, Christmas songs in particular, become pervasively ubiquitous, with countless renditions of ageless seasonal tunes showing up every year some weeks before Thanksgiving and sticking around until the year changes. Holidays Rule attempts to shake up the standard holiday listening with a cross section of artists ranging from ragtag indie acts to legitimate pop icons having a go at time-honored Christmas classics and wintry holiday songs. The collection features contributions from 17 diverse acts, and at its best, the material succeeds in offering an exciting perspective on songs we've all heard in every shopping center and dentist office around the holidays since what feels like the beginning of time.
