The disc features readings of haiku written by Nobel Prize-winning Greek poet George Seferis, with each sung/spoken-word performance by a different guest artist (including Cat Power, Robert Wyatt, Alejandro Escovedo, American Music Club's Mark Eitzel, Giant Sand's Howe Gelb, and others) seamlessly integrated into Sigmatropic's lushly dense electronic soundscapes. Like all haiku, Seferis's are characterized by brevity, natural imagery, and a keen meditative quality. The music is challenging, surprising, and utterly contemporary ("Haiku 1," read by Stereolab's Laetitia Sadler, sounds as if it could be a Stereolab song), with the mood and tone modulated to suit the theme of each individual haiku.
