Slicks Box CD (2007)
Down with the Minnesota collective Rhymesayers, the MC known as Musab presents his sophomore release, SLICKS BOX, on the famed Oakland-based label Hieroglyphics Imperium. Playing up his alleged past as a street-pimp (as he claims, "My team took all the clientele from Heidi Fleiss"), Musab goes by the alias Minnesota Slicks, putting together 12 smoothed-out players' anthems, heavy on 1970s funk and soul samples. At times, his mellow-voiced, confident smooth-talk conjures LL's middleschool work, particularly on the slick tracks "Please Do Not Assume," "Hat & Shoes," and "Confessions of MN Slicks."
Recording information: Squirrels On The Moon.
Photographer: Rodd Buckle.
