New Wet Kojak New Wet Kojak CD (1995)
CD Check Availability  Details
New Wet Kojak albums This is the debut album by New Wet Kojak, a duo that started as a side project of Girls Vs. Boys' Scott McCloud and Johnny Temple but later continued as their primary project when that band split. A spiky indie rock album that lacks the lo-fi vibe that was so prevalent around the time of its 1995 release, these 10 sounds incorporate squalling free jazz saxophone, heavy dub reggae basslines, twangy Ennio Morricone guitar, and tightly-wound whispered vocals for a unique and varied sound. Photographer: Christina Mace. Personnel: Temple (vocals, acoustic guitar); Geoff Turner (vocals, electric guitar); Charles Bennington (saxophone). Recording information: Playground, Chicago, IL (09/1994).
No. 4 EP No. 4 EP CD (2001)

New Wet Kojak music CDs On their informatively titled No.4 EP, New Wet Kojak returns with more of their take on the low-strung, breathy, sax driven, ultra-hip indie jazz that helped Morphine inspire listeners to want to smoke to look sexy. Though the group features two members of D.C.'s ultra rock double bass outfit Girls Against Boys, having released a steadier stream of records than that outfit, New Wet Kojak is hardly a mere side project. The album opens on a strong note as "Living 2 Low" harkens to the title track of 2000s Do Things with its sly basslines and smooth sax runs punctuated with Scott McCloud's raspy, abstract, apocalyptic beat ...
This Is The Glamorous This Is The Glamorous CD (2003) 5 stars

New Wet Kojak discography The sax of Charles Bennington dominates much of This Is the Glamorous, presented in a glossy, arty, and very pop-oriented manner that reminds one of a more flamboyant Morphine, especially when combined with the prominent basslines on tracks such as "Nothing You Can Say." However, most of the songwriting takes the melody of Goo-period Sonic Youth and adds Stax soul, but with an attitude that is far more glammy than you'd expect mopes who hang out with Bob Pollard for kicks are capable of. Other highlights include the twin cuts "Bad Things" and "Death 2 a Pop World," which come off like Barry Adamson's soundtrack work, and the ...
Nasty International Nasty International CD (1997)
CD Check Availability  Details
New Wet Kojak songs The second, and perhaps darkest effort from Girls Against Boys side project New Wet Kojak, Nasty International is a free-form fit of mysterious and sensual lounge noise. Girls Against Boys fans will recognize vocalist Scott McCloud and bassist Johnny Temple's quirky delivery of nihilistic material. The comparison stems more from tone than texture, as New Wet Kojak blankets McCloud's smoky art rock dialect in keyboard and sax echoes threaded with elemental jazz rhythms. Songwriting isn't exactly placed at a premium on this 1997 Touch & Go offering. McCloud, Temple, drummer Nick Pellicciotto, saxophonist C. Bennington, and multi-instrumentalist G. Turner favor atmospheric grooves over traditional song structures. The synth ...
Do Things Do Things CD (2000)
CD Check Availability  Details
New Wet Kojak CD discography It is a rare thing when a band that begins as, essentially, the side project of members of another band evolves beyond its origins and becomes a strong enough band to deserve recognition on its own merit. New Wet Kojak has accomplished this feat. Formed by Girls Against Boys' Scott McCloud and Johnny Temple (along with Nick Pellicciotto, Charles Bennington, and Geoff Turner), although they share a singer in McCloud, the two bands are so individual that each are pioneers in their own right. Whereas GvsB has allied itself with a sort of D.C.-flavord post-punk scene populated with the likes of Fugazi and Jawbox, New Wet Kojak picks ...
