Sun Moon CD (2012)
Orange Peels discography The Orange Peels resurface every couple of years with a new album of wonderfully sophisticated pop music that's impeccably produced and stocked with plenty of melody, wit, and emotion. Their 2013 entry, Sun Moon, is their fifth overall and it upholds the group's tradition in fine fashion. With a sonic approach that's a little more spacious and polished than previous efforts, the record feels more like the work of a band reaching beyond tiny rooms and into larger venues. The drums are certainly blown-out and huge-sounding, ...

2020 Vinyl LP (2010)
Orange Peels songs Allen Clapp believes in the curative powers of pop music the way someone going to Lourdes is betting on a miracle; his faith in the stuff is so strong and compelling pretty much anyone willing to give him a listen is likely to become a convert. 2020, Clapp's fourth album with his group the Orange Peels, is a beautifully documented catalog of his objects of worship, which go beyond the usual power pop variants common among present-day popmeisters -- '70s soft rock ("Birds of a Feather"), ...

Circling the Sun CD (2005)
Orange Peels CD discography The Orange Peels' third album, 2005's Circling the Sun, is their best album yet, which is really saying something considering the strength of their brief discography thus far. Wonderfully sugar-coated with a melancholy heart, the record glides past on waves of gently strummed guitars, swooning Mellotron strings, and heavenly vocal harmonies. Main Peel Allen Clapp comes up with his finest batch of songs here, too. His melodies are crisp and clean, the lyrics perfectly wistful, and the arrangements never less than lovely. The record is mostly ...

Square CD (1997)
Orange Peels albums In 1993, Northern California singer/songwriter Allen Clapp recorded an excellent homemade album called 100% CHANCE OF RAIN. The record was released by Bus Stop under the name Allen Clapp and His Orchestra but promptly disappeared. Four years later, Clapp and his bassist wife Jill joined ex-Mummies guitarist Larry Winther and Cerebral Corps drummer Bob Vickers, christened themselves The Orange Peels, and released the amazing SQUARE.
SQUARE is a nonstop delight-delicate, jangly, and unabashedly sweet. Echoes of the Three O'Clock, Association, Left Banke, Zombies, and Brian Wilson are ...

So Far CD (2001)
Orange Peels music CDs "It's the middle of March but it feels like summer," sings Allen Clapp on the album's title track, "and I wouldn't call that a California bummer." Clapp, who's also the group's main songwriter, has a weakness for obvious rhymes such as "smile" and "while" or "stars" and "afar"; fortunately, most of his lyrics are sharper than his rhymes, and the music is sunny enough to get you dreaming of California on a spring (or winter) day. The album's opening song, "Back in San Francisco," sets ...
